The Investor Press Conference hosted by Compal and Unimicron Considered the Industry Index

Date: 2020-04-07

News Type:

Investor conferences hosted by technological manufacturers this week are concentrating on the major PCB competitor such as Unimicron, notebook computer and electronic product manufacturers such as Compal, and the main producer of industrial computers such as Ennoconn. It is considered that these relevant manufacturing plants’ prospects should transform into the trend of economic growth for the technology industry in the first half of 2020.

In response to the growth of market demand, Unimicron also stated an emergent additional five-year capital expenditure plan on the 27th, which will increase from NT$20 billion to NT$28.5 billion for the development of the flip-chip substrate plant for high-end IC.

Compal will also hold an investor conference tomorrow and is about to release its financial report for 2019. What institute investors are concerned about is the company's resumption of work in mainland China and the outlook of 2020. Most importantly, institute investors are questioning whether the previous two scenarios will be impacted by the NCP epidemic.

The revenue of Compal in February was NT$39.510 billion, which showed a monthly decrease of 36.0% and an annual decrease of 27.3%. In the first two months of this year, the revenue was NT$101.276 billion, with an annual decrease of 18.6%. Compal suggested that 1.6 million pieces of notebook computers were shipped in February, which showed a decrease of 900,000 pieces compared to 2.5 million pieces in January; a decline of 36%. The recession is mainly resulting from the impact of NCP, so the personnel and utilization rate have been significantly affected, making it impossible for factories to complete shipment on a massive scale. However, when the work resumption rate of factories in mainland China continues to rise, Compal’s production capacity in the mainland should return to normal and additional production can be carried out further in the second quarter. As expected by institute investors, there is a great chance that Compal’s performance in the second quarter can be relatively favorable as compared to that of the first quarter, even though the season has been affected. However, it will still take time to find out if the NCP epidemic affects the buying trend in the European and American markets, as well as the outlook for the second half of 2020.

Regarding the industrial computer manufacturers, Ennoconn, with the invitation of UBS Securities, participated in an online investor conference on the 31st. In recent days, there have been urgent orders rushing in for Ennoconn, which can mainly be explained by the global spread of the NCP epidemic, therefore, quite a few customers are striving for the shipment of goods. The institute investors have estimated that Ennoconn would utilize all its effort so that its revenue this quarter can be the same as that of the same period in 2019. With the attainment of new customers, Ennoconn should expect its operation to grow quarter by quarter, with its annual revenue growth at the target of 30% to uphold its trade.
