Production and sales of new energy vehicles in the mainland maintained rapid growth in February

According to data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) on March 11, the production and sales of new energy vehicles in China reached 59,200 units and 52,900 units, with a year-on-year growth of 50.9% and 53.6% respectively.

According to Chen Shihua, Assistant Secretary General of CAAM, the production and sales of new energy vehicles continued to grow at a rapid rate in February. Therefore the production and sales of pure electric cars reached 43,700 units and 39,700 units, with a year-on-year growth of 51.34% and 69.37% respectively. The production and sales of plug-in hybrid cars reached 15,400 units and 13,000 units, with a year-on-year growth of 48.24% and 18.64% respectively.

Data from CAAM from January to February indicated that the top 10 companies in mainland China’s vehicle brand sales were SAIC Motors, Geely Auto, Changan, Great Wall Motors, Dongfeng Motor, BAIC Group, Chery, FAW, JAC and BYD. Compared with the same period last year, Chery’s sales growth rate was the largest, followed by Great Wall and BYD, while the other seven companies recorded different degrees of decline. From January to February, a total of 1,637,500 vehicles were sold by the abovementioned ten companies, accounting for 84.22% of the mainland Chinese vehicle brands.
