台積電計劃投資新台幣4,000億元新台幣（135億美元）擴大新竹廠區，有意在全球智慧手機市場放緩之際重振成長之勢。
台積電發言人孫又文透過電話告訴彭博，台積電正等待環評，以及在取得土地方面政府的協助，因此這個計劃仍處於初步階段。新竹是台積電總部和主要晶圓生產基地 ，包括研發中心。
投資處長張銘斌在接受經濟日報專訪時透露，某本土半導體業者在竹科銅鑼園區，打算投資400億元新台幣興建一座12吋晶圓廠。這項投資案是「萬事俱備、只欠東風」。
台積電正在向加密貨幣挖礦設備等新市場拓展，但隨著已開發市場飽和並且更換週期加長，其面臨智慧手機廠商需求放緩的局面。 (新聞來源: 聯合新聞網)
