The rise of the Internet of Things (IoT) has light up the night sky of the semiconductor’s industry. MediaTek Inc., the leading player of IC design in Taiwan, has recently squandered NT$ 10 billion to engage in the R & D of IoT, gleaning the most fruitful results in the IC design industry. Meanwhile, the aspiring company has also announced its partnerships with Amazon, Tinitell, Apple Inc. and People Power in preparation for building chips for Smart Home and the Internet of Vehicles. The IoT will replace smartphone chips as the new key to the doors of triumph in a wide spectrum of industries.
While people are now swamped with smartphones worldwide, MediaTek is proactively seeking to shatter the ceiling of possibilities. Mr. Ming-jie Tsai, Chairman of MediaTek, says the IoT is inevitably the direction Taiwan should head for. What MediaTek is diligently devoted to is its position along the trajectory of the IoT. The enterprise plans to plunge in the blue ocean of the IoT with based on its keen perceptions in hopes of not only gaining sheer profits and corporate competitiveness but also creating a dominant network instead of playing solo.
A wide variety of advanced chips have been developed by MediaTek over the past 2 decades, setting a strong foundation for the IoT age. More than 20 models of chips have been introduced with regard to intelligent positioning, smart health and fitness devices, smart home and office supplies, forging a potent IoT platform. On such premise, MediaTek has managed to gain the momentum of the IoT hardware by tailoring to the IoT demand by Amazon and Apple.
MediaTek also prides itself on its integrated application combined with the Internet of Vehicles and auto driving. While there is not a single chip supplier that could provide fully integrated solutions, most car makers are left with no choice but reach out extravagantly to multiple suppliers to satisfy the connections and integration needs between various products and systems. MediaTek outshines with comprehensive solutions for vehicles and thus significantly lower cost. That being said, MediaTek is expected to benefit from billion-dollar worth of profitable opportunities with such foresight and advantage as the world gets ready for the advent and prevalence of the Internet of Vehicles.
