According to a report by Reuters on January 24th, a corporate alliance composed of Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi were rumored to invest a total of 30 billion euro in joint research and development for electric vehicles (EV). This was three times the original amount. The main reason for this amount lies with the fierce competition from emerging car manufacturers. Moreover, the demands for EV are expected to expand and deepen the cooperation between participants.

In the just-concluded CES 2022 (US Consumer Electronics Show), EVs have remained one of the biggest highlights. Apart from major automakers around the world like Toyota, GM, Chrysler, etc., as well as fresh players like SONY and Vingroup, Vietnam's largest corporate group have also joined the ranks and entered the electric vehicle market. Furthermore, the number of new EV registrations in 2020 has surged by 41% while the number of new vehicle registrations worldwide has shrunk by one-sixth in the same period. This is based on "Global Outlook of Electric Vehicle 2021" – a report released by the International Energy Agency (IEA) to highlight the trend of fast growth for EV. Also, it is estimated that global sales for EVs will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 28.7% from 2020 to 2030.

In fact, the growth of EVs has also contributed to the increased use of automotive PCBs. According to statistics, the use of PCB by EV is 1 to 2 times over that of gasoline vehicles. However, the average use of PCB in each hybrid vehicle is about 0.5m2 but the average usage of electric vehicles/pure electric vehicles/fuel-cell vehicles is more than 1m2. At present, the application of automotive boards remains dominated by gasoline vehicles, accounting for about 84%. However, it is estimated that EV will be the primary application for automotive boards by 2030 alongside the popularization of EV and increased amounts of PCB, accounting for a proportion as high as 63%. Most of all, the compound annual growth rate for the overall amount of EV automotive boards will reach 19.1%.
