Bidding for 5G is still underway and entered the 244th round on the morning of the 14th of January. The total 5G bidding amount has provisionally reached NT$129.669 billion and is well on its way to approaching the NT$130 billion mark. To date, the Taiwan Telecommunications Association that consists of five major telecommunications operators has made five important appeals while calling on the government to support enterprises in developing a friendly environment for long-term investments and R&D. This also includes policies such as the inventory and planning of spectrum resources, reasonable spectrum acquisition, use costs, etc.
The first wave of the bid quantity operation for the 5G mobile broadband business underwent its 25th day of auctions on 14 January while reaching a cumulative 244th round of bidding at noon on the day and amounting to a total provisional bidding price of NT$129.669 billion. The bidding amount, however, was estimated to exceed the NT$130 billion mark at the end of the bid proceedings on the 14th of January.
As for the 244th round of biddings, the 190MHz band was provisionally awarded among the 27Mbps bandwidth in the 3500MHz band, with a total provisional price of NT$128.021 billion and a bandwidth price of NT$4.783 billion/Mbps. Among the 25Mbps bandwidths in the 28000MHz band, the 16Mbps bandwidth provisionally won, with a bidding price of $1.648 billion. Also, the 16Mbps bandwidth provisionally won the current bidding round price of NT$103 million, while no bandwidth was awarded for the 1800MHz band.
The growing number of 5G bids has caused concern among telecommunications operators, governments, and consumers. With the high cost of bidding, the 5G tariffs that were introduced by the telecommunications operators are not likely to decrease in the future. (News source: United Evening News)
