The panel market is currently in oversupply and the industry knockout is currently underway. For now, Mini LED and Micro LED is expected to bring new and exciting technologies, which should be regarded as the key to alleviate the challenges associated with the oversupply and should become the focus of development for each plant. A group of Taiwanese panel makers such as Innolux and AUO is working together with both upstream and downstream partners to encourage new technologies such as Mini LED and Micro LED.

LIANG, MAO-SHENG, the vice chairman of the Taiwan Display Union Association (TDUA), said that the panel has turned into an unsuccessful business in 2018 and 2019 and is currently confronted with the same "unfortunate" situation. In addition, both AUO and Innolux have lost money in the first half of the year, while Korean manufacturing plants are not experiencing better successes. Evidently, we are experiencing a significant turnaround for new technologies such as Micro and Mini LED. LIANG, MAO-SHENG further indicated, "We must have darkness before dawn and in this case, it will be dawn after darkness." This is important in order to ensure the improvement of novel technology; otherwise, an oversupply in the panel market will continue to persist.

The Mini LED market is generally considered with important prospects to compete with OLED this year and new products are likely to be marketed in the second half of the year. CHEN, CHIEN-CHU, a senior analyst of IDC, believes that the significant question is whether Mini LED can be made cheaper than OLED if Mini LED competes with OLED. In addition, if the price decreases, the expansion of the quantity is also going to be necessary to the success of Mini LED. At present, there seems to be a greater chance for the market success of TV products. As for Micro LED, it is regarded as the next-generation display technology but it has not adequately reached a large scale of mass production. Moreover, as stated by the panel industry, the cost is still high at this stage. However, if more people could get involved, the economic scale and progress will be significantly improved.
