Recently, ZTE indicated on its interactive platform that it is continuing to invest in 5G and is conducting 5G cooperation and testing with relevant operators. Users will also be able to upgrade to 5G mobile phones of ZTE in 2019, which is a relatively minor objective for the company in the 5G era. Furthermore, it will implement commercialization of 5G in the first half of 2019.

As is well known, 2018 was a very difficult year for ZTE. Nevertheless, this company has not been defeated. After the new management took office, ZTE first reestablished its strategic focus and then invested its greatest resources into 5G. ZTE has increased its R&D efforts on 5G products, including related 5G terminals, research and development of core chips, and optimization of the supply chain structure, all in order to create end-to-end product solutions for 5G. Above all, it has worked in line with the global 5G commercialization schedule.

ZTE has also strengthened its cooperation with 5G operators and actively participated in 5G testing to help operators implement 5G commercial deployment. Technically, ZTE has also increased its investment in research and development. From 2015 to 2017, it has invested more than 12 billion RMB of capital annually into research and development. In the first three quarters of 2018, the funding of R&D investment was 8.526 billion RMB, accounting for 14.5% of its revenue.

In the third quarter, the funding of R&D investment was 3.47 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 37.5%.
From a product perspective, ZTE has already had a full range of end-to-end products and solutions for 5G; as for network verification, ZTE has cooperated with more than 20 well-known operators around the world, including China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom. As a result, ZTE is considered to be quite competitive on the 5G market. In 2017, ZTE ranked fourth for market share in terms of global communications equipment.

China’s communications industry ran behind in 2G, followed up in 3G, and kept abreast in 4G. As for the 5G era, with the help of companies like Huawei and ZTE, the industry is already standing in a leading position. Despite encountering various obstacles during the advancement process, the progress of mainland enterprises marching grandly towards the 5G era will not be hindered. (News source: Sohu.com)
